History
Charles G. Beach died in 1892 and was buried in the Barrett Cemetery.
The Augusta Cemetery property was originally the land surrounding Charles Beach's house and barn. On July 5, 1894, the Pisgah Lodge #543 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows purchased the five acres of land that comprise the cemetery from Emily J.Beach for the sum of $150.00. Augusta Cemetery was founded on August 29, 1894. Charles G. Beach was moved from the Barret Cemetery to the Augusta Cemetery. Charles Beach's monument stands on the highest ground at the cemetery, which was the location of the entrance to the barn.
On March 29, 1916, Emily J. Beach passed away and was buried next to her husband Charles at the Augusta Cemetery.
On May 30, 1940, the Augusta Cemetery Association was incorporated.
On October 2, 1987, the Augusta Cemetery Association Board of Trustees approved Resolution #1, which set aside $20.000.00 in perpetuity for the maintenance and preservation of the cemetery. Also, Resolution #1 specified that only interest from the deposit of the money could be used for maintenance and preservation. (View the original document.)
On December 29, 1999, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows transferred ownership of the land comprising the Augusta Cemetery to the Augusta Cemetery Association for the sum of $1.00. (View the original document.)
